Discover the world of Dr. Sylvie Peres and the 4 essential steps she recommends for beautiful skin.
What made you want to become a dermatologist?
First, there is the manual side. What attracted me was improving the skin with simple gestures. I didn't like complicated technologies, and at the time there were no lasers, only blades, scalpels, and curettes.
During my shifts I was destabilized by patients who had nothing and mimed serious pathologies and on the contrary others who showed nothing and could die following.
Everything is visible on the skin. Not having a good ear, I developed my sight. I like to look for small clues, to look at the skin carefully, it provides information about people's lives, the skin hides nothing and does not deceive.
Thanks to Alaia with the opening of the Alaena Spa in Paris, I immersed myself in micronutrition and I wondered what legitimacy I had as a dermatologist. A colleague reminded me that dermatology opened up to internal medicine, the queen discipline that synthesized all the specialties. Making a diagnosis is like a puzzle or an investigation. Thanks to small signs noted on the skin, we can connect and explain other general symptoms in order to be able to provide lasting treatment.
What does it mean to you to work with your family?
Working as a family is wonderful and exciting. My daughters give me the energy of their youth, pushing me to develop a part of my professional life, something I would never have done without them. It was in embryo and my daughters push me to achieve, it's the world upside down! After 20 years of practice I knew what I wanted (and didn't want) but to create the Alaena range, you need all the know-how of an engineer like Anne and now, thanks to Alaia, I am delving into micro-nutrition, an essential basis for comprehensive dermatological care. I am pushing my knowledge of the plant world further, it's exciting.
What are your passions?
My family and friends, I love laughing with them.
And for them, protecting the environment: what kind of world will my grandchildren see?
What place does beauty have in your life?
I really enjoy the aesthetic part of my profession, but that came much later in the history of dermatology.
More generally, beauty is like the packaging of a gift, what we see first. And the image we give at first glance is important, but for me, what's important is what's inside. I'm often struck by the difference between "in and out"—beautiful people don't always have the corresponding envelope, or vice versa. But what fascinates me is the beauty of nature: a real addiction.
My essential beauty gestures
1 - I always clean my skin with a mild soap
I always start my day by cleansing my face with the mango & avocado soap and then I spray on very pure spring water to neutralize the chlorine and limescale in tap water.
2 - I vary the textures
Skin needs biodiversity to be healthy. I apply different textures to meet its different needs: the eye contour by draining this area to reduce puffiness. Then, I apply the radiance serum to smooth the skin's texture and the anti-aging cream to deeply hydrate the skin.
3 - I systematically protect my skin from the sun
When I'm outdoors, I apply SPF 50+ sunscreen. Its light tint and fluid texture even out my complexion without leaving white marks. I don't forget my neck and the tops of my hands, which aren't protected from the sun by clothing.
4 - I do the double cleansing
In the evening, I add the Cleansing Oil before the soap to perform a double cleanse which removes both makeup and sunscreens.
