What ritual should you adopt for a comprehensive anti-aging approach?

In this article, we will talk about diet, beauty rituals, but also physical and intellectual activity, sleep, and hormones to stay radiant.

What type of diet should you choose?

Dr. Sylvie Peres : As we age, our system slows down; we absorb less good nutrients, and instead absorb others that make us gain weight. It's important to balance your three meals well, and especially not to snack in between.

In nature, foods are complexes of proteins, lipids, carbohydrates associated with vitamins and antioxidants.

  • Eat five different fruits and vegetables per meal to provide maximum antioxidants and vitamins. Eat biodiversity and vary your fruits and vegetables according to the seasons. Don't hesitate to add seeds, dried fruits, spices, and herbs.

  • Have a regular protein intake by thinking about plant-based proteins from whole grains and legumes (lentils, chickpeas, split peas, quinoa, beans). For maximum skin benefits, buy these foods dried and soak them for 12 to 24 hours before cooking.

  • Have a balanced intake of omega 3, 6, and 9 by eating small oily fish (mackerel, sardines, herring) twice a week. In your meals, vary and mix vegetable oils (olive, rapeseed, flax, hemp, walnut, safflower, camelina, sesame). All organic if possible.

  • Avoid processed or prepared foods (too high in sugars, saturated fats, gluten, salt, additives).

  • Eat organic as much as possible. A 25% reduction in cancer risk has been observed among "regular" consumers of organic food, compared to people who consume it less often. This is what an epidemiological study conducted by a team from INRA, INSERM, Université Paris 13, CNAM, reveals, through the analysis of a sample of 68,946 participants from the NutriNet-Santé cohort (study published in JAMA Internal Medicine on October 22, 2018). This new work is thus the first to attempt to quantify the risk of cancer based on exposure to pesticides through food. However, further work is necessary to implement appropriate and targeted public health measures.

We advise you to apply this precautionary principle if you can and eat organic as much as possible.

How can we explain skin aging?

Dr. Sylvie Peres : There is your heritage, it is intrinsic aging, related to your genetics and your hormones.

Over time, the entire architecture of the skin changes.

  • At the surface level of the epidermis: there is a decrease in cell renewal and a lack of lipids. The skin is therefore drier and thinner. Or conversely, thick skin will see its surface layer thicken, become rougher and more irregular, and the pores dilate.

  • In the dermis, from the age of 25, the production of elastic and connective tissues decreases as does microcirculation, which is the breeding ground for the first fine lines, pseudo-comedones can appear and the complexion becomes duller.

  • In the deeper layers, it is the fatty tissue that decreases, the muscles relax, the bone is resorbed and wrinkles deepen.

Extrinsic aging is related to external factors: sun, pollution, tobacco, stress, excess alcohol, lack of sleep, diet, etc. Sun and UV damage, called heliodermia, is well known. This photoaging causes the skin to lose its radiance and transparency. This is due to the vessels that dilate and an infinite number of micro pigmented spots that appear. As a result, the complexion is dull. This is associated with solar elastosis - the elastic tissue damaged by UV rays reinforces the sagging of the skin, the complexion is yellowish with dilated follicular orifices.

Look at the skin of the breast (if you don't expose them) it looks much younger than the skin of the décolleté nearby and of the same age!

Finally, as we age, the weight applied to our cheekbones causes ptosis, which weighs down our nasolabial folds, our corners of the mouth, and even our mandibles. The triangle formed by the eyes and mouth is inverted: this is the loss of the oval. It also brings out the periorbital fat, hence the bags under the eyes. Certain overactive muscles promote frown lines at the glabella and crow's feet.

What beauty ritual should you adopt?

The Alaena ritual aims to address all of these factors, starting at a young age as a preventative measure. Remember, we're not trying to eliminate all signs of aging, but rather to age gracefully and harmoniously.

1 Clean:

Cleansing is particularly important, as well-cleansed skin will be able to better absorb anti-aging active ingredients. In the evening, perform a double cleanse with the Cleansing Oil then the Mango & Avocado Soap . Finish rinsing by spraying the Water Mist to neutralize the chlorine and limescale in tap water.

Avoid micellar waters which attack the epidermis and leave detergent or macromolecules on the skin which prevent the penetration of active ingredients.

2 Hydrate:

Apply Radiance Serum morning and evening to cleansed skin to treat dull, dehydrated complexions. Its aqueous gel texture provides biodiversity to improve radiance and act on all layers of the skin. It refines the stratum corneum, smooths its surface, and plumps and redensifies the elastic tissue of the dermis.

On the sensitive area around the eyes where the skin is very thin, apply the Eye Contour to reduce dark circles, puffiness and fine lines. Fragile, the skin around the eyes is four times thinner than that of the rest of the face, not to mention external aggressions (UV, pollution, etc.), poor lifestyle, fine lines appear from the age of thirty at the level of crow's feet. Its ultra-gentle formula without any essential oil or perfume is suitable for the most sensitive skin, without risk of allergy.

Then apply the Anti-Aging Moisturizing Cream to your face and neck. The formula of the Anti-Aging Moisturizing Cream is the extension of my research using Cérat de Galien, a traditional masterful preparation, which is a hot emulsion of beeswax that retains moisture, sweet almond oil, and rose water. To bring biodiversity, I added mimosa wax, shea butter, vegetable oils produced in the South West of France, and plant and algae extracts to reduce the signs of skin aging. To provide all the micronutrients necessary for the cells of your epidermis to flourish, I added our patented active ingredient made from sprouted wheat, oat, chia, flax, and green soybean seeds.

3 Correct:

To restore skin's radiance and accelerate cell regeneration, apply the Fruit Acid Peel twice a week. It is used like a mask, applying a thin layer to the skin for 10 minutes, then rinsing. The Alpha Hydroxy Acids extracted from fruit act as an exfoliant to remove the surface layers of the skin.

Then apply the Intense Hydration Mask . Leave on for 10 minutes and rinse off any excess that has not been absorbed. The Intense Hydration Mask, with its rich texture, provides and maintains maximum hydration. The plant waxes are complemented by white clay, shea butter, and a blend of algae. Rich in antioxidants, trace elements, and minerals, algae are known for their regenerative, soothing, and detoxifying properties. I have selected vegetable oils rich in omega 3 and 6: plum, grape seed, camelina, and perilla oils will nourish your skin cells. Raspberry and birch extracts provide antioxidants. Acmella oleracea, a beautiful plant from South America, is known for its anti-wrinkle effects. Finally, our patented active ingredient based on sprouted seeds has demonstrated, through genomic analysis, great effectiveness on all layers of the skin. This recent biotechnology makes it possible to analyze the level of gene expression in skin cells: the proper functioning of genes is the condition for beautiful skin.

From the first day, our ingredient penetrates into the depth of the dermis with vasodilation, stimulation of microcirculation and elastic fibers (collagens and elastins): this is the launch of skin regeneration which will continue throughout the thickness of the skin and for all cells of both the epidermis and the immune system. Tests at 8 days confirm the cumulative effect of genomic activities in the direction of skin improvement combining regeneration, differentiation, cell renewal (in particular on filagrin and loricrin, an important constituent of the "natural moistering factor" - these proteins are deficient in atopic eczema).

4 Protect:

Avoid sun exposure as much as possible. Favor shade and wear a hat. If this is not possible, apply SPF50+ Sunscreen and reapply every two hours. The presence of 100% mineral filters (zinc and titanium dioxide) effectively fights against UVA and UVB rays. The formula is rich in anti-inflammatory and anti-free radical active ingredients to prevent photo-induced skin aging. As for organic vegetable oils, I carefully selected them for their nourishing properties and their affinities with the skin. Finally, a second-skin BB Cream texture that is highly resistant to water and perspiration helps hide imperfections while immediately giving a nude complexion.

In a global approach, what would you recommend for aging in harmony?

1/ A physical activity that is a source of pleasure:

Dr. Sylvie Peres : Choose a physical activity that combines cardio work, muscle tone—with particular attention to core strength to prevent spinal problems—flexibility, and balance. It should be enjoyable, otherwise it won't be regular and therefore ineffective, especially on weight, which is often a concern. Don't hesitate to get help by joining associations, a sports coach, or forming groups to keep you motivated.

Yoga, originally a spiritual practice, has become a popular way to promote physical and mental well-being. It combines relaxation movement with Buddhist wisdom, connecting body and mind, and is a school of letting go. Dance and its accompanying music therapy can achieve the same results. Classical walking is a good workout for the heart and legs, but insufficient for the shoulders, deep abdominal muscles, and back.

Finally, with age, tone decreases, we stoop, shoulders roll forward, so correct your posture by lifting the sternum while growing. This requires daily attention, in addition to practicing the activities mentioned above.

2 A stimulating intellectual activity:

Dr. Sylvie Peres : Spirit and energy: maintain enthusiasm, the capacity for wonder, continue to learn, especially from young people who must build their world. Play games that exercise memory and pleasantly maintain social bonds. If you prefer, get involved in associations; the key is to find the spice of life when childhood and work become distant. Finally, LAUGH as often as possible; it seems to me that this is what diminishes the most with age. Is it the lack of energy?

3 Restful sleep:

Dr. Sylvie Peres : A busy day for a good night's sleep.

As we age, we tend to wake up around 4 a.m. If you don't have to get up in the morning, use this quiet time to read, listen to music, or do other calming activities. It's important to avoid looking at screens after 11 p.m. You can also try going to bed a little later. Don't hesitate to get checked out by a specialist to rule out sleep apnea. A consultation with an anti-aging doctor can also be beneficial by balancing your hormones.
