I have dry skin, what should I do? Advice from Dr. Sylvie Peres

The cold alters the skin's hydrolipidic film, which normally acts as a protective shield against external aggressions (stress, UV rays, pollution). With the skin barrier weakened, the skin becomes dehydrated. In addition to proper hydration, it is therefore essential to help the skin defend itself.

1- Moisturize your skin well

In winter, blood vessels constrict, and blood is directed primarily toward vital organs to warm the body. The skin receives less water and less sebum, becoming drier and more tight or itchy. To maintain beautiful skin, it's essential to moisturize deeply and regularly.

For the face , using a moisturizer adapted to your skin type is more than ever recommended. Skin tends to become significantly more sensitive in winter.

I chose the Sensitive Skin Moisturizing Cream , a formula that contains no allergens. Each ingredient has been carefully chosen to be in perfect affinity with the most fragile skin. Its fine, enveloping texture strengthens the skin barrier and acts as a shield against external aggressions .

2 - Overusing moisturizing masks

I recommend always choosing a delicious texture rich in vegetable waxes to provide maximum comfort to the skin and nourish it in a lasting way.

The Intense Hydration Mask is rich in shea butter, beeswax and plum oil. I also added active ingredients that boost the synthesis of collagen and other proteins, such as algae extract and our sprouted seed extract .

For the formula of the Summer Garden Radiance Balm I chose different vegetable waxes: jojoba , acacia , coconut oil , shea butter , wheat germ oil , plum oil , grape seed oil to ensure long-lasting hydration and comfort the driest skin.

4 - Gentle cleansing

Skin protection now more than ever requires gentle cleansing and makeup removal that respects the balance and sensitivity of the epidermis.

Our mango and avocado soap is cold-processed to respect the skin's hydrolipidic film thanks to the naturally present glycerin. It also helps rebalance the skin's bacterial flora.

For makeup removal, we prefer vegetable oils . We can choose virgin oils like jojoba oil or more elaborate formulas like Alaena makeup remover oil.

The water mist

To rinse your face, we recommend spring or thermal waters such as water mist. Their main effect is to calm irritation and redness and soothe sensitive skin. In addition, the high concentration of lime and chlorine in tap water irritates the skin and attacks the skin's barriers.

5 - Avoid long hot showers

The temptation to take a near-scalding shower when it's freezing outside is tempting. However, prolonged contact with hot water will strip your skin of its natural protective oils, further dehydrating it. If the thought of a cold shower makes you shiver, opt for a lukewarm shower lasting less than 10 minutes, remembering to moisturize your body afterward.

6 - We adopt an anti-cold diet

During the winter season, favor foods that contain omega 3 , these essential fatty acids that ensure cell cohesion and the waterproofing of the epidermis. They are found in borage oil, rapeseed oil, lamb's lettuce , nuts , oily fish or oilseeds (pumpkin seeds, chia seeds). Finally, and this is true throughout the year as well, we avoid as much as possible industrial foods composed of saturated fats which maximize the risks of skin irritation.
