3 Moisturizers Developed by Our Dermatologist That Will Transform Your Skin

Skin's needs are complex, and it requires diversity to be healthy. Therefore, textures and formulas must be varied. At Alaena, we've taken this into account by creating different formulas tailored to each need.

Identify your skin type

Dr. Sylvie Peres: For Alaena, based on my experience as a dermatologist, I have identified three skin types:

Combination skin: more common in young people, where we will have dry, tight skin on the cheeks and in the central area which is hyper-seborrheic, skin which will be shinier with dilated pores and acne lesions.

Sensitive skin: This type of skin is uncomfortable, tight, and can flake in thinner areas like the eye area. This type includes skin that tends to redden and has small, visible blood vessels in thin areas like the cheekbones or nose.

Mature skin: We know that with age, we produce fewer hormones, the skin will then become thinner because it will lack nutrients, and will therefore present wrinkles and fine lines but also dehydrated skin.

Why use a moisturizer?

Dr. Sylvie Peres: During my dermatology studies, I conducted a study for a laboratory on the effectiveness of dietary supplements on tanning, and the most convincing result was that it was necessary to regularly apply moisturizer. The signs were very clear; people who did not apply moisturizer had signs of premature aging. I often give the image of shoe leather; everyone knows that when you polish them regularly, the leather resists better and has a much greater shine.

Which cream for mature skin?

You should favor the presence of vegetable oils in your moisturizer such as plum oil, grapeseed oil, camellia oil, borage oil, argan oil, or vegetable waxes for a richer texture such as beeswax, mimosa wax, jojoba wax or shea butter.

In addition to a natural oily base, for an anti-aging action, the cream must contain natural active ingredients against skin aging : vitamins (A, C, E), plant extracts rich in antioxidants, such as nepheline or propolis, but also hyaluronic acid, or algae extracts to boost the production of collagen and elastin, improve support and plump the skin.

What ritual should I follow for skin that shows hormonal acne and the first signs of aging?

Generally around the age of forty, we will go from having combination skin with small spots to the first signs of aging. It will then be necessary to adapt our ritual by juggling between formulas and textures. Always favoring double cleansing ( Cleansing Oil and Mango & Avocado Soap ) and alternating between the Combination Skin Moisturizing Cream and Anti-Aging Cream. It is important to emphasize that skin that tends to have excess sebum and some imperfections will be thicker and fine lines will appear later.

Is it necessary to apply moisturizer morning and night?

Our skin follows the biological clock with much more cellular activity during the day, and like us, it rests at night. So, it seems to me that providing regular nutrients and hydration doesn't interfere with this protocol at all. Because at night, there can also be some dryness, and therefore the cream is perfectly suited to the evening ritual.

Is it not recommended for any skin type?

The only limitation will be for some skin types that will present acne, in which case the evening ritual can be lightened. Everyone must learn to know their skin, to respect and follow its feelings to adapt their ritual.

How do I know if my moisturizer is right for my skin type?

If small spots appear, it means that the routine is too rich. It is therefore necessary to favor light creams like the Combination Skin Moisturizing Cream to be applied morning and evening. We will reinforce the treatment with the Fruit Acid Peeling , which will refine the skin texture and limit sebum retention.

Another common case is, on the contrary, skin that feels uncomfortable and tight. In this case, I recommend switching to a moisturizer without allergens or fragrances, such as our Sensitive Skin Moisturizing Cream.

We also opt for a gentle cleansing with the Mango and Avocado Soap and the Cleansing Oil and a rinse with the Water Mist to neutralize chlorine and limescale. Discover all the benefits of double cleansing in this article
