Meeting with Pauline Rigoux, co-founder of Maison Belzunce

Can you introduce yourself and tell us about your background?

My name is Pauline, I am 34 years old. I grew up in the Basque Country. A doctor of pharmacy specializing in cosmetology, I worked for 4 years in scientific marketing for various cosmetic brands in Paris and Toulouse. As I approached my 30th birthday, I wanted to return to the Basque Country by joining the family business. Today, I work as a family with one of my brothers, Louis, and my parents. We own two reception venues: Au milieu des fougères and Belzunce .

How did the Maison Belzunce adventure begin?

Belzunce was born from the desire of my brothers and myself to further anchor our roots in the Basque Country that we cherish so much. This project also represented the continuation of the approach our parents took 25 years earlier when they began to renovate an abandoned farm in Sare which has now become the Au milieu des fougères estate .

Who helped you with the design and decoration of Maison Belzunce?

It's our passion, so we managed them ourselves. We wanted a clean, minimalist atmosphere so everyone could easily feel at home and fully enjoy the space each room offers. For some creations, we called on local artisans such as carpenters or ironworkers. Most of the furnishings are made up of family furniture or found at flea markets. Our main sources of inspiration were Pinterest, French and English decoration magazines, and of course, the surrounding nature.

How did you discover Alaena?

Particularly interested in the world of cosmetics, I've been following Alaena since its beginnings with the creation of the spa in Biarritz, which I've had the chance to enjoy several times. As a family business based in the Basque Country, Alaena echoes our approach.

What place does beauty hold in your life?

It should be synonymous with simplicity and comfort. I've always loved good basics without the frills. Hydration and good sleep are the basis, if not the essential, of my beauty routine, which I try to apply daily.

What are your Alaena favorites?

The Mango & Avocado Soap is the first product I tried and still use today to cleanse my face morning and night. I complement with the Cleansing Oil for a double cleanse when I feel the need. And I love applying the Fruit Acid Peel from time to time to refresh my skin. If I had to remember just one thing about Alaena products, it would definitely be their delicate fragrance.
